When buying a new storage box it’s important to think about what use the storage box will have to you so that you can get the most use out of it.
Use
The size of the box is governed by what you plan on storing in the box and where you are planning on using the storage box. For example a large plastic storage box is not ideal if you are going to place the box in a small closet.
Strength
A large plastic storage box loaded with toys, clothes, shoes or tools can easily weigh over 30 pounds. A thin cheap plastic box will crack under this weight when lifted off the ground or when stacked on top of each other. Buying thick heavy duty plastic storage boxes will combat this problem, although at an extra cost.
Storing
Are you planning on stacking your storage boxes on top of each other? In this case a plastic storage box with lid is ideal. Boxes that stack and lock on top of each other are very stable for long term storage.
An outdoor plastic storage box is usually quite large and made to keep rain and dew out. These are great for keeping a range of outdoor items from garden tools to bench cushions.
Mobility
If you are planning to store your plastic storage box under a bed or desk it is useful to buy a model that has wheels on it. When the box is loaded up, the wheels make it easy to roll the box out when you need to access the stored items.
Color
Plastic storage boxes come in a variety of colors, although the most common are the white and the clear plastic storage box. Co lours are fantastic for brightening up a plain room. Of course you can always buy a white or clear box and decorate it yourself. This is also an excellent project for the kids.
