At first, you may be thinking of French doors in terms of their looks and secondarily in terms of their function. While it is true that most modern homes with French doors have them for their decor aspect, they can be quite functional as well. The versatility offered by a PVC French Door might surprise you. For example, you might not know that you can get these doors in a variety of colors and with various designs and styles to suit most home decorating sensibilities. We’ll touch upon the styles and colors that are available as well as some additional features about them that make them even more attractive options.
Most applications of these types of doors are when we are considering placement to an exterior entrance or exit. In other words, the material is best for this situation. The nature of the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) makes it resistant to rot from water exposure or other pest issues. It also has the ability to keep its color without the need for refinishing or repainting periodically. Unless you re-finish it yourself, you may be surprised at how little maintenance it requires. You can find these doors in a variety of colors or finishes ranging from the simple whites and creams to wood mimicking styles of oak, mahogany and cherry. There also exists the ability to mix the frame color and the door color to create a more exotic looking door combination.

Another feature of these French doors that makes them appealing is the ability to have them give you better energy efficiency all while allowing more light into your space. How you achieve this is through the use of low E glass inset into the door panels. This type of glass allows for the light of the sun to penetrate while blocking the other heat producing aspects of the sun’s rays to be blocked. You get the light without the heat gain in your space. If you have a bedroom or other space which you would like to have open on to that patio or garden space, then these would make a great addition. You might not have considered using a pre-existing window to use either. This is a possible way to add a set of French doors that would otherwise not fit into your room. You’ll need to ensure that you cut the space beneath the window away and that you have the proper framing members in place. If so, then this can provide you a way to get a great new doorway into your once secluded space.
