Are Plywood Garage Cabinets The Right Choice For You?

You know that you need additional storage space to organize your garage. You also know that cabinets can provide this storage space. What you don’t know, though, is which type of garage cabinet to go with. Should you try metal cabinets or are plywood garage cabinets the better choice?

It can be difficult to compare and contrast plywood or wood cabinets to metal ones. After all, wooden garage cabinets aren’t nearly as durable and long-lasting as are metal ones. Then again, plywood garage cabinets aren’t meant to be.

Plywood cabinets, like all wooden garage cabinets, are attractive for two reasons: They are less expensive than are metal garage cabinets. And they are often more attractive. They do a good job of storing your tools, gardening supplies, outdoor play toys and sports equipment. And they do it without detracting from the aesthetic value of your garage.

But when it comes to taking damage? They simply can’t compare to metal cabinets. This is why they are less costly than are metal cabinets.

Of course, whether you need metal or plywood garage cabinets really does depend on what you plan to use your garage for. If you’re using it mostly to store your car and your outdoor equipment, plywood cabinets might be a good, inexpensive choice. If you are using your garage as a workshop, though, you might want to invest the extra dollars in metal cabinets.

If you do decide to go with wood cabinets, plywood garage cabinets are probably your better buy. Other types of wood cabinets, including those made from particle board, fiberboard or regular wood, are more susceptible to water damage or wear and tear. These cabinets may be cheaper, but they simply won’t last. Plywood cabinets, though, will hold up far better to both the elements and to the punishment dished out by the rest of your family.
