Making Your Home’s Side Entrance Beautiful

Most of our home decorating efforts go towards the parts of the home that our friends and guests will see. Which makes sense – you want to impress people when they enter your home. However, you can’t just ignore the other parts of your home, either. This article discusses how to decorate the side entrance to your home, what your design goals should be, and some suggestions on things to add to the area.

If you have children or other traffic through the side entrance, then you may have already realized that it can be difficult to keep the area clean. They run through, they make messes, and it can be tough to keep everything looking good. To that end, I suggest your main goal be that it needs to clean up easily. You may want to avoid the white carpet and the delicate china around this part of the house. This article will assume a busy side entrance from here on.

One of the ways I keep the area organized and looking good is by installing mudroom lockers inside the door. These lockers will help your children keep their dirty outdoor clothes clean and contained, and not trailing dirt throughout your home. The lockers look good enough for a side entrance, especially one that’s so busy.

Another thing to consider is plain wood shelves to decorate the walls. The plain coloring will likely match the utility of the room, although if you want to add a little extra decoration on the wood itself that would likely match nicely too. You just will want to avoid highly decorative shelving, or nice painted shelving, as it’s quite likely that this area will get very messy.

These are just a couple thoughts to help begin your designing. Do some research, consider the situation you’re in, and the best answer will likely jump out at you when you least expect it to.
