Storage boxes come in all shapes and sizes, as well as a number of different materials. The term “storage” denotes their general use, but under that term are a variety of more specific usages.
The first of these uses is during moving. When moving from one house or office to another, boxes of some kind are almost always used. These boxes range in size but are often medium to large, and are usually made of cardboard although plastic boxes are sometimes also used. Cardboard storage boxes are generally preferred because they is cheap and easy to come by, as well as being easily disposable once the boxes are no longer needed.
Another use is for long-term storage in a basement, attic, or garage. Out-of-season clothes and holiday decorations are among the things often stored in this way. When using boxes for long-term storage it is important to keep in mind the temperatures and humidity levels the boxes will be exposed to; certain items should be kept in cooler or drier areas than others.
Two more uses include decorative home storage and in-home organization. Decorative storage boxes can be used in plain sight to hold magazines, children’s toys, and a myriad other things that can contribute to household clutter. Small, uniformly-sized boxes can be used as an organizational system for arts and crafts items, tools, or office supplies.
A fifth use is storage for specific items. Boxes for storing CDs and DVDs, shoes, photos, comic books, etc. are some examples of this. Depending on their intended function, these boxes can be found in many different colors and designs, and are made with cardboard, plastic, or even metal.
